Afghan Hijabi Model Lands Massive Fashion Campaign

Last year, Dolce & Gabbana was making waves internationally when the Italian fashion house launched its abaya collection. The popular brand released beautiful images for its luxurious, silky robes and bright scarves made specifically for Muslims.

Now, Dolce & Gabbana has decided to take things to the next level by making 23-year-old Afghan model Ruba Zai the face of their latest campaign. Style Arabia described the campaign as “an enchanting visual story about the grace and beauty of the marvelous women of Arabia”.

The Italian brand chose the Netherlands-based Zai to represent their collection. The model then advised to change the launch date of Dolce & Gabbana’s Autumn season to match the holy month of Ramadan.

Taking place in Marrakech, Morocco, the shoot shows Zai wearing a D&G leopard-print abaya and scarf.

It’s refreshing to see a brand embrace the modest attire — especially during the hard times we’re currently going through. Other brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, and Mango have released similar lines to coincide with Ramadan as well.

WE SAID THIS: The collection is available at all of D&G boutiques in the Middle East, as well as select stores in Paris, London, Milan & Munich.
